Task 1
Task 2
My Hornsby Website

Maybe some of you have experienced this, but imagine your parents say to you, "We're moving!"  What thoughts go through your head?

TASK 1...

Write down the 10 most important questions you would want immediate answers to.  Do this on the Task 1 page.

Now imagine you are located in another city or even another country and you are moving to Hornsby.  Use the internet to find answers to your questions.  Can you find many sites?  Are the sites useful?  Are they written in language a 10 year old child can understand?

TASK 2...

Write down the sites you visit where information can be found to find your answers.  Write a short assessment on the usefulness of this site.  Do this on the Task 2 page.

Did you find the answers you were looking for?  If you didn't (and it is certain that you didn't!) then this brings you to Task 3, the design and creation of a website aimed at children of your age.

TASK 3...

Design and create a website which provides children moving to Hornsby with answers to their questions and provides information about their new suburb and shire, even their new city.

You will do this in several stages taking 8 weeks.

STAGE 1

Week 1: (No computer work)

Design your website.

How many pages will you have?

What information or topics will be on each page?

Week 2: (No computer work)

Decide how each page will be set out.

Decide on common page features, e.g. font style and size, headings, background.

STAGE 2

Weeks 3, 4, and 5: (No computer work)

Gather information and material for your site.  This will require you to research websites and books, study the local community and maybe interview people in the Hornsby community.  Your findings will be in the form of text (in hand-writing) and photo requests (in writing to Mr Sumpton).

STAGE 3

Weeks 6, 7, and 8:

Creating your pages electronically.

Does your site answer your original questions?  Is your site one that other people enjoy looking at?  Is there anything you would do differently?
