YEAR FOUR VISITED HORNSBY COUNCIL

Hornsby Shire Council - A Recount by Ina 4R

In the morning when the school bell went, 4R and I walked to the Hornsby Shire Council.  Tracy pretended to be a 63 year old lady who worked at the park and didn’t want the skateboard ramp to be made.   One fact about Hornsby’s history is that a policeman named Constable Horn who stopped a robber and got a piece of land which he named Hornsby.  The council votes if things should be made or not and they organize things we need and want for example garbage collectors, parks and pools.  The mayor organizes meetings and things and people to build things.  The thing I learnt was that tin cans can be recycled and shouldn’t be put in the red garbage bin.  The thing I liked best was walking back from the Hornsby Shire with Clara-Jane because we had lots of fun talking together.

SWIMMING CARNIVAL   On 26th February 2009, Hornsby North Public School had their Swimming Carnival. I went in two races, freestyle and breaststroke.  Before I had my first race I was really nervous.  But then they announced, "Nine Year old girls please go to the marshalling area."  I sat on the first set of chairs.  I was in the 4th lane, then I had to sit on the second set of chairs.    Finally I got into my diving position.  Bang!  The gun went.  I dived into the water and started swimming freestyle.  I usually come in the middle of races, like 3rd or 4th.  But this time I came first.  It was so amazing, I actually came first!  So I went to the people who give you a score and told them I came first.  After that I went to my house which is green - Gilmore.    Ten races later I went in breaststroke.  Off went the gun!  Off I dived into the water and started swimming breaststroke.  I was coming last, but that was all right.  I didn't get into the finals in freestyle or didn't get into finals in breaststroke.  It was an exciting and fun day.   by Tiffany 4P

SWIMMING CARNIVAL   Yesterday we went to Hornsby Pool for our Swimming Carnival.  I was in the 50m Breaststroke and 50m Freestyle.  I came fourth but at least I went in the races to swim and we got points for Gilmore.   After I swam in the race, I went to the shop.  I had $3 to spend.  I bought a big crunchie and a zombie chew.   Next we were cheering our team so they would come first.  We got points for singing songs.  Then when I went down to the lines where we were getting ready to swim, I dived off the blocks when the gun went.  The people who got the stick went to tell Mrs Bonner so she could write it down, but I didn't get one.  Then when I got out of the pool, Charlotte told me she was in the finals.  I was proud of her.  When she was swimming we were shouting, Go Charlotte!"  At the end she came third.  Then Madeline and I were holding up our posters.  They said Gilmore is the best team ever.  Madeline took her green frog and we were playing around with it.  We packed up and went on the bus back to school.  Gilmore got 321 points and we came third.  It was the best day ever.  When I got home I got a treat for swimming in the races.   by Rachel 4P

THE BIG GAME

Hi I’m coach Ben I coach the Wiggi Inc Ducks soccer club. Tomorrow is our first game of the season against the Jailing Rebels.  No they haven’t been to jail before, they just think the name is cool. My son Edward has his first game tomorrow he also plays in my team.

On the day Ben called everybody over for a team talk. “Harry you are the goal keeper, Matt and Jackson defenders, Jason and Rick midfield, Tom, Mason and Edward strikers Zac you are on bench first,” said Ben.

There was only one problem.  The ref was from the Jailing Rebels. We kicked off. The ball went to Jason, Jason passed to Tom, who passed to Mason.  Mason scored a goal , but what do you think the ref said? "No goal"  Mason went and made a complaint.  What do you think the ref did? He yellow carded him. Edward had the ball and he got tripped by the Jailing Rebels Captain .”Free kick to the Rebels!” said the ref with glee! Rob the Rebel's Captain took it.  Bam it went in like a comet.

The score was Rebels 1 Ducks 0. Somehow the police came and arrested the ref. So I had to become the ref. First I changed the score to Ducks 1 Rebels 1 .Then I gave the Ducks a free kick and Tom kicked it in. We were in the lead by one. Rob had the ball between his feet and Edward slide tackled.  It went in the goal and the crowd roared.  We won by 2 points and Edward was the Champion.
