Hornsby North Primary, what a Finale!
It’s been an extremely busy time for all
at Hornsby North Primary School. This school’s community doesn’t do
things in halves. After making the decision to adopt Strathewen
Primary School, things progressed at a hectic yet rewarding pace for
everyone.
Each class was allocated a special
friend from Strathewen Primary School, one of the schools in
Victoria which was burnt to the ground in the recent bushfires.
Letters were written, and individual boxes made up, which included
necessary supplies for each child, as well as toys and of course,
money!
With donated coins weighing in at over
170 kgs, it’s no wonder teacher, Mr Nathan Stevens’ tow bar on his
car was almost dragging along the ground when he surrendered the
buckets of coins to the bank for counting….
the total figure, an impressive
$6,000!!!!!
Doesn’t this reassure your faith in
humanity, especially when it’s coming from kind young hearts.

HORNSBY
NORTH COLLECTS 170KG OF COINS FUNDRAISING FOR STRATHEWEN SCHOOL
We are
nearing the end of our project, but what generosity and sacrifices
we have seen from the Hornsby North School Community.
The coin
total for last week’s activities was $5,675. Mr Stevens and Mrs
Jeffrey took the buckets of coins to the bank yesterday. It took
over four hours to count. This total, coupled with the money raised
from Mrs Shakeri’s Prayer Meeting, gives us a grand total of $5,943 (just $57 short of $6000).
Great work Hornsby North!
The final stage of our project will be on Thursday.
Mr Stevens and a group of willing workers will be hard at work
packing individual boxes for the Strathewen children. Below is a
request from Mr Stevens and Mrs Jeffrey:
‘Thank you to Hornsby North families for your
generous donations last week. The heavy bucket competition was won
by 2G and together we collected over 170kg. Your gifts will be
transported by Toll IPEC in boxes supplied by Fellowes
Manufacturing. If anyone can assist in preparing the boxes there
will be a “boxing” day in the hall on Thursday 5th March from 9am.
Thank you again for your donations and to the companies assisting
our efforts’.

HORNSBY NORTH grieves for Victoria’s
Bushfire Victims
When the usually
happy smiling faces of children and their families and teachers at
Hornsby North Public School feel grief, it can only be for one of
the greatest losses they, as all Australians, have ever experienced
in the wake of the most devastating natural disaster in our history.
On Sunday, families
of Hornsby North united as one to help raise funds and pray for
Victoria’s bushfire victims. Mrs Shirin Shakeri, organised the
special prayer event on behalf of the Baha'i community and everyone
was welcome. The Children wrote
special notes and drawings which were placed in a box to be sent
down to the children in Victoria.
The program was
hosted and conducted by the children. With the Baha'i children’s
choir singing, and a special performance by 8 year old Orana on
piano. |

Hornsby North plans
to adopt one of the Victorian primary schools that was burnt to the
ground in the fires. “We would like to help with the recovery, not
only with financial donations, but help to rebuild the children’s
spirit and faith and sense of belonging through letter writing from
our own children here at Hornsby North”, says Principal Mrs Maree
Sumpton.
The School has many
plans and fundraising events throughout the coming weeks to help
raise as much money as they can.
