Determination Pays off for Rachel

When I sat down with young Rachel, it was her refreshing determination and innocence that soon became obvious to me, that Rachel will succeed in whatever her dreams and heart desires.

This talented trumpet player from Hornsby North Pubic School is no ordinary 11yr old, as she took it upon herself and displayed her remarkable talent and generosity by busking at Hornsby Mall, to raise and donate $208 for Victoria’s bushfire victims, every dollar representing each person who lost their life against the ferocious fire storm at that time.

“I felt that I had to do something, and because they lost everything, I just figured that money is what they needed right now, and I don’t need anymore Nintendo’s or games, It just made me feel very sad to see”, Rachel said.

Rachel began playing the trumpet at the ripe old age of 8, and is obvious that within three years her talent is one not to be ignored.

This year Rachel auditioned for the Northern Sydney Schools Wind Orchestra, (NSSWO) and was one of only three chosen from hundreds of hopeful trumpeters on this side of the Harbour Bridge. Some of Rachel’s performances include; the Sydney Opera House, the Schools Spectacular, ‘Angel Place Music Collaboration’, various High School performances as well as her weekly involvement in Hornsby North’s concert Band.

Rachel has the world at her feet, as this ambitious performer would also like to be an actress and has attended the renowned Marian Street Theatre, The Pymble Players and Berowra Musical Society. After her schooling she would like to attend ‘Nida’.

These school holidays you may be lucky enough to catch her busking with her trumpet at Hornsby Mall.
