So You Think You Can Dance!

While many children sit in their classrooms awaiting and winding down  to their second school holiday for the year, spare a thought for some, who have devoted their time and energy in the last two weeks of the school term, dancing night and day at the Annual Sydney North Schools Dance Festival, held at Glen St Theatre.

Students from Hornsby North Public School put their dancing shoes on and showed how dancing should be done at the auditions earlier this year, and came out highly acclaimed. It wasn’t difficult to see why this was, after watching them perform at Glen St.

“I love the atmosphere at Glen St, it’s so exciting with all the lights, and you get to make people smile,” said one of the children. The Sydney North Schools Dance Festival consists of dancers from 56 public schools, primary and high school, in the Northern Sydney Region.

The students from Years 1-6 at Hornsby North are chosen through an audition process of their own. If you can dance, you can audition.

Hornsby North Public School is one of the schools fortunate enough to have dedicated teacher, Mrs Sandra Reeves, a professional and accredited dance teacher, available to share her talents.

Mrs Reeves is also a qualified school teacher, who teaches at Hornsby North, and takes on the dancing/performing challenges with both hands. HNPS are also involved with many other dance performances including the Schools Spectacular, which is held at the end of the year at the Entertainment Centre.

This year a select group of children also attended the 2009 dance camp at the Sydney Dance Company in Sydney. This is also organised and run by our own Mrs Reeves. There, they were fortunate to have had the opportunity to be trained by the directors of the Dance Company and choreographers from the renowned TV show, “So You Think You Can Dance”.
